2 2 4 WIRE ROPE SHEAVES
TECHNICAL DATA
SHEAVE SELECTION
Sheaves in the selection Table 1 have been graded according to Australian Standard 1418.1–2002 S.A.A. CRANE
CODE, including hoists and winches. The table is based on wire rope for general purposes. Other variables have been
valued on their upper limit so in most applications the sheaves have a higher class than tabled.
CLASS OF MECHANISM–AS1418.1
Classes range from M1 to M8. Class is determined by crane code formula table 7.16 being: Minimum ratio of sheave
pitch diameter to steel rope diameter (in other words the smaller the sheave pitch diameter for a given rope diameter
the lower will be the class of mechanism).
1) Use TABLE 1 to select sheave PART No. according to rope diameter and class required.
(Root diameter and overall diameter is related to this Part No.) i.e. SH200/10 has root diameter
200mm and overall diameter 255mm.
2) Other Sheave dimensions can be obtained from TABLE 2.
(a) Shaft diameter 35mm
(b) Bearing assembly width 54mm.
3) FRAME dimensions to suit these sheaves can be obtained from TABLE 3.
